London Games Festival Receives Major UK Government Funding

Posted on June 23, 2025July 30, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

London Games Festival funding to double event scale and boost UK games sector

The UK Government has pledged new support for the London Games Festival as part of a wider £30 million Games Growth Package, announced in its Creative Industries Sector Plan on June 23, 2025.

Delivered by Games London — a partnership between Film London and Ukie — the festival already attracts over 100,000 visitors annually and is the largest video games event in the UK.

This London Games Festival funding is expected to transform the scale and impact of the event, ensuring stronger support for UK developers and broader international outreach.

The additional funding will work alongside long-term support from the Mayor of London, with the goal of expanding the festival programme, growing regional and international visibility, and increasing its overall economic return.

“Coinciding with London Games Festival’s tenth anniversary year, this announcement is the best birthday present we could hope for!”
— Adrian Wootton OBE, Chief Executive of Film London and Games London

“Funding will allow us to deliver an expanded festival programme, including more showcasing opportunities; to grow a number of our existing programmes UK-wide; and develop new ones.”
— Michael French, Head of Games London and Festival Director

“We are really proud that, since founding and funding the London Games Festival, we’ve seen it grow into a world-class celebration of our city’s diverse and dynamic games industry.”
— Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries

London Games Festival funding will not only double the event’s capacity by 2026, but also reinforce its role as a launchpad for UK studios and talent, helping attract new investment and visibility for the British games sector.
