Niko and Luna in Nikoderiko: The Magical World key art featuring vibrant colors and animal companions

Nikoderiko: the Magical World Set for Release on December 6 2024

Posted on December 7, 2024June 26, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

December 6, 2024 — Gamers, mark your calendars! Nikoderiko: The Magical World officially launches today for PC, introducing a colorful, retro-inspired platforming journey. Developed by indie studio Pixel Jumpers, this charming title brings together nostalgic gameplay, stunning visuals, and whimsical storytelling.

Meet Niko and Luna

Set on a mystical island, players control the brave mongoose Niko and his agile companion Luna as they take on the sinister Baron Grimbald. Together, they’ll travel across seven diverse worlds—from arid deserts to frozen tundras—battling enemies, solving puzzles, and uncovering secrets hidden in every corner.

Gameplay: Classic 2.5D Meets 3D Action

Nikoderiko delivers a hybrid experience, merging side-scrolling 2.5D mechanics with dynamic 3D sections. The game features platforming challenges, minecart rides, boss battles, and underwater levels that promise to keep players on their toes. For those who love exploring, each world offers secret paths, collectibles, and hidden surprises.

Ride Into Battle with Animal Mounts

One of the standout mechanics in the game is the use of collectible animal mounts. Each mount offers unique advantages:

  • Boaris the Boar – Charges through enemies and obstacles.
  • Todd the Toad – Performs high jumps and uses venom spit.
  • Oceanis the Seahorse – Navigates swiftly through underwater levels.
  • Dino – Brings brute force to crush enemies and terrain.

Built for Co-op Fun

The game offers a local two-player cooperative mode, enabling friends or siblings to experience the journey together. Whether tackling puzzles or taking down Grimbald’s minions, teamwork adds another layer of enjoyment to the adventure.

Soundtrack by David Wise

The legendary David Wise, known for his work on classic platformers, composed the game’s soundtrack. The music is a nostalgic blend of whimsical melodies and adventurous tones that align perfectly with the magical atmosphere of Nikoderiko’s world.
