Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is canceled as Ubisoft halts development

Posted on January 23, 2026January 23, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Ubisoft ends the remake after years of delays

Ubisoft has confirmed it has stopped development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. In the message shared to the Prince of Persia community, the team says the project had real potential, but it couldn’t reach the level of quality fans deserve without more time and investment than Ubisoft could responsibly commit.

The statement also stresses that this decision doesn’t mean Ubisoft is stepping away from Prince of Persia as a franchise — but the remake itself is now officially off the table.

Why this matters

The Sands of Time isn’t just another back-catalog title — it’s one of Ubisoft’s most beloved classics, and that automatically puts the quality bar extremely high. If the remake couldn’t meet that standard, canceling it is the cleaner (if painful) outcome compared to shipping something that would disappoint fans and dilute the legacy.

Ubisoft shared an official statement confirming development has been stopped on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.

For players, it’s also a reminder of how hard remakes can be when expectations are locked to a specific era, tone, and feel. You’re not just rebuilding a game — you’re rebuilding a memory.
