News Tower 1.0 Launches with Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews

News Tower hits 1.0 on Steam with an Overwhelmingly Positive start

After almost two years in Early Access, News Tower has officially launched in version 1.0 on Steam. The News Tower 1.0 launch sees the 1930s newspaper management sim from Rotterdam-based indie team Sparrow Night and publisher Twin Sails Interactive finally arrive as a full release on PC – and it’s already sitting in the coveted “Overwhelmingly Positive” bracket on Steam at launch.

In News Tower, you build a towering newsroom in New York during the Great Depression, hiring reporters, photographers, typesetters, janitors, advertisers, and more while trying to turn a struggling local paper into a full-blown media empire. Every Sunday brings a new edition to put out, and every front page forces you to pick a tone: hard news, sensational headlines, or something in between – all while juggling pressure from the Mayor, the Mafia, the Military, and High Society. If you enjoy this kind of systems-heavy indie project, you might also want to read our earlier coverage of Pattern Survivors: Bullet Hell — Create Chaos.

The News Tower 1.0 launch also expands on the Early Access foundations with a full decade-long campaign, a competitor system that pits your paper against rival publications across New York, deeper faction questlines, and an endless mode for players who want to keep the presses running after the credits. It’s the same core idea – build a newsroom floor by floor, keep your staff alive and (somewhat) happy, and fight for readers – but pushed out into a complete management game instead of a promising prototype.

If you follow Fix Gaming Channel regularly, you’ll know I have a soft spot for ambitious management and strategy titles coming out of the indie space. News Tower is interesting for another reason, though: it’s a game about journalism, made by a small team, launching into a media landscape where a lot of real outlets are fighting to survive. That contrast alone makes this one worth watching – and playing.

For now, News Tower is available on Steam for PC, with support for Windows, macOS, and Linux. I’ll be spending proper time with the full release and putting together a separate gameplay impressions piece for Fix Gaming Channel, along with a raw gameplay video so you can see how the newsroom really runs once the deadlines start stacking up. If you’re an indie dev thinking about your own project, my guide The Right Way to Playtest: Safe Access, Useful Feedback goes deeper into how to run strong playtests and gather useful feedback.
