Phantom Squad key art with three operators breaching—tactical top-down co-op shooter from Ctrl Freak & Super Rare Originals.

What Is Phantom Squad? Tactical Top-Down Co-op Explained

Posted on September 13, 2025September 20, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Tactical top-down co-op where planning meets controlled chaos

The Phantom Squad game is a tactical top-down shooter built for 1–4 players from Ctrl Freak and publisher Super Rare Originals. You sketch routes, stack up on doors, sync breaches, and adapt when things go loud. It launched on PC (Steam) on July 18, 2025 and leans into deliberate, lethal encounters where clean clears feel earned—and messy ones become war stories.

How it plays

  • Plan, Execute, Adapt: Draw paths, assign roles, and time multi-door entries—then react in real time when the plan meets resistance.
  • Co-op first, solo supported: Up to four players coordinate routes and callouts; single-player lets you issue precise squad commands.
  • Tools that matter: Door cams, wedges, sensors, and a compact weapon roster that rewards precision over spray.
  • High stakes: Lethal TTK and friendly fire keep discipline high; success is methodical, not run-and-gun.

Who it’s for

If you enjoy tactical shooters with deliberate pacing—planning like a heist, executed from a fast overhead perspective—the Phantom Squad game sits right in that lane. It’s built for friends who like to draw lines on a map, count down a breach, and debrief what went right (and wrong) after.
