Why I’m at gamescom asia: So Indies Don’t Drown
I’m heading to gamescom asia with a simple goal: keep independent games visible.
Addressing gamescom asia indie discoverability is key—not just for one team or a few friends, but for the whole indie ecosystem.
If nobody fights for attention, great work sinks under the noise.
The Mood Right Now: Layoffs Everywhere
Every day, my LinkedIn feed is flooded with layoff posts. People are tired, worried, and it’s sad. I see it. But I can’t think only in those terms.
My job is to keep showing up for indies—doing the work, supporting where I can, and making sure good games get noticed. That’s what I do, what I’ve always done, and what I’ll keep doing.
Discoverability Is Brutal
You can be brilliant and still be invisible. I learned that first-hand in the music industry: without people actively surfacing quality, the market forgets you—even if your game could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Grand Theft Auto or The Witcher.
Games are no different. Algorithms reward momentum, not craft. If nobody champions the work, it drowns.
What I’m Doing on the Floor
- Micro-previews: 150–300 word hands-on notes with a clear hook and “play this if…”
- Quick Q&As: Five questions that let devs speak in their own voice—no PR fog.
- Game of the Week scouting: One standout gets a bigger push post-show.
- Short-form footage: Raw moments (32:9/4K when possible) that actually show the game.
- Optional Fix Access clinics: Store-page clarity, trailer structure, and curated outreach (no mass blasts).
How I Choose What to Cover
- Hook: One sentence with the core verb and payoff.
- Proof: A playable slice or clear systems footage; 4–6 clean UI-off screenshots help.
- Scope: Tight > bloated. Smart limits show confidence.
- Honesty: Be real about status (Demo/Early Access/1.0) and timeline.
Want Coverage?
I have a handful of meetings booked and roaming time in the indie areas. Bring a playable build or a strong vertical slice and:
- Send: Steam/Itch link, press kit (logo, 5–8 screens, trailer), 3-sentence hook, embargo date/time.
- Contact: fix@fixgamingchannel.com / contact
This Isn’t About One Studio — It’s About the Whole Indie Scene
If nobody keeps focus on indies at scale, we lose the most honest part of games: small teams taking real risks.
My job is to make sure those voices are seen and heard—consistently—not just when a viral moment strikes.
