PlayStation Ends PHYSINT Partnership as Xbox Steps In to Publish Kojima’s Game

Posted on September 10, 2026September 10, 2026 By Robelle Veligano

Xbox will publish PHYSINT, the action-espionage game from Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions, after PlayStation Studios ended its collaboration on the project.

Development of PHYSINT is continuing, with Kojima Productions now expanding its existing relationship with Xbox beyond the upcoming horror game OD.

PlayStation Steps Away From PHYSINT

PlayStation Studios announced that it had made the difficult decision to step away from its collaboration with Kojima Productions on PHYSINT.

PlayStation said it continues to admire Kojima’s vision for the project and described its wider relationship with the developer as strong, adding that it expects to continue working with Kojima Productions in the future.

Kojima later provided more detail about the change. He said Kojima Productions unexpectedly received notice in mid-June that PlayStation Studios would cancel the PHYSINT project under their partnership.

Kojima Productions did not abandon the game. According to Kojima, the studio spent the following three months searching for a new partner so development could continue.

Xbox Will Publish PHYSINT

That new partner is Xbox.

Xbox confirmed on September 9 that it will work with Kojima Productions to publish PHYSINT, expanding the companies’ existing partnership.

Kojima said the agreement takes the relationship with Xbox beyond OD and confirmed that development of PHYSINT is continuing.

Xbox becoming the publisher does not currently confirm the game’s final platform lineup. Neither Xbox nor Kojima Productions announced launch platforms as part of the new publishing agreement.

Xbox and Kojima Productions Expand Their Partnership

The agreement also extends beyond the two games.

Xbox says it plans to collaborate with Kojima Productions across film and television, although no specific film or television projects were announced.

PHYSINT was originally announced in January 2024 through PlayStation as a new action-espionage project from Kojima Productions. At the time, PlayStation described it as a new project coming to PlayStation.

The publishing situation has now changed significantly, but Kojima’s latest statement makes one point clear: PHYSINT remains in development.
