Anomaly President: Run for Office by Day, Fight Gangs by Night | Indie Gem of the Day

Posted on August 26, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Run for president by day. Beat down the president’s gangs by night.

Anomaly President is our Indie Gem of the Day, combining presidential campaigning, roguelike combat, a customizable campaign bus, strange anomaly powers, and a workforce of creatures called Fluffies.

You are trying to become president. During the day, that means campaigning and winning votes. At night, you head into the streets and fight the criminal gangs working for the current president.

That alone was enough to get my attention.

At the time of writing, the Early Access release has a Very Positive user rating on Steam, with 91% of more than 1,300 reviews positive.

It is a completely different kind of pick from our recent Night Portable Indie Gem, but it has the same important quality: you can understand what makes it interesting almost immediately.

Your campaign headquarters has wheels

The campaign bus might be the system that ties the whole strange idea together.

Instead of returning to a conventional base between fights, you build and customize a mobile headquarters. Rooms can be added to support different parts of the campaign, giving the management side of the game a physical place instead of reducing everything to menus.

Then there are the Fluffies.

These creatures can be recruited and assigned to different jobs. Some work on election campaigning, some help improve equipment, and others can support you in combat. They also need looking after. Neglect them and they can leave, or potentially die.

It adds another layer to a game that already has much more going on than its ridiculous presidential premise initially suggests.

Anomaly President Gameplay

We also captured Anomaly President gameplay on PC for the Fix Gaming Channel YouTube channel. You can watch our gameplay below.

The mix of campaigning, management, combat, and increasingly strange powers is the point here. Anomaly President is not relying on one unusual premise and leaving it there.

Then night falls and the roguelike takes over

The daytime campaigning gives way to much faster action once you head into the streets.

Enemies and bosses can have their own anomaly abilities, and defeating them can give you access to new powers. Combined with weapons and roguelike upgrades, that opens the door to very different builds.

You can lean toward something resembling a swordmaster built around well-timed parries, or push toward a cyber mage using anomaly abilities to hit groups of enemies. The point is experimentation rather than locking yourself into one character class.

Games such as Hell Clock and SULFUR have also shown how finding a ridiculous combination can become as entertaining as the fight itself.

Early Access is already moving

Anomaly President is still an Early Access game. The developers say the current version can be played from start to finish, but the story ending is unfinished and parts of the map are still unavailable.

The studio currently expects Early Access to last at least a year, with additional content, balancing, fixes, and map expansion planned along the way.

Development has continued since launch too. An August 20 update added a Food Truck to the world map, giving players another way to send Fluffies out to collect food, alongside balance changes, visual improvements, resource chests, and bug fixes.

Why Anomaly President is our Indie Gem of the Day

What puts Anomaly President here is how many recognizable systems it combines without losing the one thing an indie game desperately needs: an identity you can explain quickly.

Campaign for votes. Build a headquarters inside a bus. Recruit Fluffies. Fight gangs at night. Steal bizarre powers from bosses. Try to become president.

You remember that.

Recent Indie Gem picks such as Mandated Fate stood out for completely different reasons, but the principle is the same: give us something with enough personality that we want more people to know it exists.

Anomaly President certainly has that.
