GTA 6 Scams Are Promising Early Access That Does Not Exist

If a website claims you can play GTA 6 today, do not download it

Fraudulent early-access offers, secret beta downloads and unofficial launchers are exploiting the enormous anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI.

McAfee is warning players about scammers promoting supposed playable builds, VIP access, discounted keys and counterfeit storefronts for GTA 6.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital preloading begins November 12.

Rockstar has not announced a public beta or a playable early-access version. Any website, video, message or download claiming that players can access the game before its official release should therefore be treated as fraudulent.

The Fake GTA 6 Offers Players Should Avoid

According to McAfee’s August 13 security report, fraudulent offers connected to the game include:

• Downloads claiming that players can “play GTA 6 today”
• Secret beta invitations and supposed VIP early access
• Counterfeit preorder pages and discounted game keys
• Cryptocurrency-only purchases
• Unofficial launchers and installation files

Common warning signs include requests to disable antivirus protection, compressed installation files from unknown websites, shortened links, cryptocurrency payments and downloads shared through video descriptions or Discord servers.

This follows a wider pattern of increasingly convincing gaming scams spread through Steam, Discord and YouTube. Fake playtests, creator offers, verification pages and downloadable builds can imitate normal parts of gaming closely enough to lower a player’s guard.

The 116,000 Infections Came From a Separate Minecraft Campaign

McAfee also highlighted a malware operation called WeedHack, which has reportedly infected more than 116,000 devices since January 2026. Researchers estimate that it continues to produce approximately 2,000–3,000 new infections each day.

That figure does not represent confirmed GTA 6 victims. WeedHack is a separate campaign distributed through fraudulent Minecraft mods, game clients, fake websites and convincing videos.

McAfee says the malware can steal passwords, cryptocurrency wallets, Discord credentials and Minecraft accounts. Related gaming malware may also monitor cameras, microphones and keyboard or mouse input.

Viral Indie Games Are Being Exploited Too

The security company also identified unauthorized Android apps and a piracy website using the name of viral indie game Meccha Chameleon, despite its developer not announcing an official Android edition.

The unauthorized apps were reported and removed after hundreds of downloads. McAfee explicitly states that they were not confirmed to contain malware, but users had already granted the apps security permissions.

This distinction is important. An unauthorized application can expose users to unnecessary risk without researchers having confirmed a malicious payload.

What to Do Before Downloading Anything

Players should confirm release dates, supported platforms and testing opportunities through the publisher’s official website or verified store listing. Do not trust a download simply because it appears in a polished video or comes from a familiar Discord account.

If you have already installed a suspicious file, disconnect the affected computer from the internet and run a complete security scan. Change important passwords from a clean device, secure the associated email account, revoke active sessions and enable multifactor authentication.
