3Z game key art featuring zodiac-themed characters from Mixed Realms

Mixed Realms Reveals 13Z, a Roguelike Inspired by Chinese Mythology

Posted on September 11, 2024June 30, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Singapore, September 9th – Acclaimed indie developer Mixed Realms, best known for *Sairento VR* and “Gordian Quest”, has officially revealed its next ambitious project: 13Z: The Zodial trials. This upcoming roguelike action-adventure game plunges players into a mystical world steeped in Chinese mythology and zodiac legends, with a modern twist.

Become the 13th Zodiac Guardian

In 13Z, you don’t just fight monsters—you fight fate. As a challenger to the twelve legendary Zodiac Guardians, your goal is to prove your worth and ascend as the mysterious 13th Guardian, a new symbol in the ancient mythos. Each stage presents new threats, mutated monsters, and elemental bosses based on zodiac animals.

The game’s replayability shines through procedurally generated levels and evolving challenges. No two runs are ever the same, making every session feel fresh, urgent, and rewarding.

A Living World That Grows With You

Between combat runs, players return to a mystical village hub—a central element in 13Z’s worldbuilding. This village isn’t just for upgrading your stats and gear; it grows and evolves as you progress. New characters arrive, storylines unlock, and visual changes reflect your impact on the world. This narrative-driven progression encourages players to invest not only in skills but in community and lore.

Early Access, Events and Global Playtest

13Z will be featured at both GFusion and the Tokyo Game Show later this month, where a limited playtest will be available to global participants. This is an exciting opportunity for players worldwide to try the game and give feedback early in development.

You can already wishlist the game on Steam to stay informed about all updates, playtest access, and eventual early access announcements.

Key Features

  • Fast-paced roguelike combat with weapon and skill customization
  • Dynamic village hub that changes with your progress
  • Multiple combat styles, abilities, and relics to mix and match
  • Boss fights based on the Chinese Zodiac—each with unique patterns and powers
  • Global playtest debut at Tokyo Game Show and GFusion

What the Developers Are Saying

Aldric Chang, CEO of Mixed Realms:
“Unveiling 13Z is a proud moment for us. This game is a passion project that combines our love for adrenaline-pumping action with the storytelling depth of Chinese mythology. We’ve crafted each aspect of 13Z to offer something new each time you play, ensuring every victory is rewarding.”
