Survivor and dog explore a frozen city in Permafrost game

Embrace the Chill Toplitz Productions and Spacerocket Games Announce Permafrost

Posted on May 22, 2024May 2, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Toplitz Productions and newcomer studio SpaceRocket Games have teamed up to bring us “Permafrost,”  a brand-new survival game set in a brutally cold post-apocalyptic world. It’s not just about battling the elements. It’s about what’s left of humanity when the world freezes over.

The game is coming to Steam Early Access in 2025 and will support solo play or online co-op with up to four players.

What’s It All About?

After a mysterious event known as the “shattering,” the Earth has been plunged into a never-ending winter. Cities are abandoned, governments are gone, and billions didn’t survive. Those who did? They now have to deal with freezing temperatures, roaming threats, and the collapse of everything that once made the world livable.

In Permafrost, you’re one of the survivors. The goal? Stay alive—and maybe rebuild something along the way.

Key Features

  • Survival in a Harsh Environment: Adapt to the perpetual winter by scavenging for resources, hunting rare animals, and crafting essential tools amidst the unforgiving elements.
  • Base Building and Crafting: Construct intricate shelters, cultivate crops, and develop technology using upcycled materials to thrive in the icy expanse.
  • Dynamic Decision Making: Navigate moral dilemmas as you decide between rebuilding society or seizing power, shaping humanity’s fate amidst the frozen wasteland.
  • Exploration and Discovery: Uncover the secrets of the ‘shattering’ while exploring the frozen remnants of civilization by land and sea, seeking valuable resources and unraveling the mysteries of the past.
  • Cold Zones: Explore cold zones for additional resources and valuable loot, scout and restore buildings, and create new living spaces.
  • Deadly Combat: Defend against threats using primitive weapons or firearms, facing hostile enemies or natural predators in a relentless battle for survival.
  • Dog Companion: A rescued dog serves as a faithful companion and early warning system, using its keen sense of smell and awareness to help you roam the wilderness.
  • Multiplayer Co-op: Go alone or join forces with friends in online co-op to scavenge, craft, build, and survive in a brutal world.
