UFC 5 vs UFC 6: Price, Crossplay, Ratings, and the Upgrade Question

Posted on July 3, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

UFC 5 vs UFC 6: Is EA’s New MMA Game Worth the Full Price?

EA Sports UFC 6 is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but players who already own UFC 5 have a harder question to answer: is this a must-buy upgrade, or should you wait for a sale?

UFC 6 brings crossplay, new fighter identity systems, updated ratings, new modes, and Flow State. That gives the game a clear upgrade path over UFC 5, especially for online players.

The problem is the price. The standard edition is not cheap, and the Ultimate Edition pushes even higher. For casual players, that price makes the upgrade less automatic.

EA’s basics video is useful for new players and returning UFC 5 players, especially with UFC 6 adding new systems, control options, and a stronger focus on fighter identity.

UFC 6 is current-gen only

The first thing to know is simple: UFC 6 is listed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is not listed for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

That may explain why some players struggle to find it through the console store. If you are searching from an older Xbox, the listing may not appear the same way. Search for UFC 6 directly, or use the web version of the Xbox Store.

The price makes this a tougher upgrade

The standard edition of UFC 6 is listed at $69.99+ on the Xbox Store, while the Ultimate Edition is listed at $99.99+. That is a lot if you already own UFC 5 and only play a few fights now and then.

For casual players, waiting for a sale may be the better move. UFC 5 still works if you mostly play offline, quick fights, or local matches.

For online players, the price is easier to justify. UFC 6 has the newer player base, crossplay, updated ratings, and systems designed around each fighter’s real style.

Ratings are no longer just one number

One of the main changes in UFC 6 is how EA is handling fighter ratings. EA says ratings now work alongside movement, animations, perks, fighting styles, player skill, and Flow State.

That should make fighter choice more interesting. A pressure boxer, counter striker, chain wrestler, or submission specialist should not feel like the same fighter with different stats. UFC 6 is built to make each fighter’s style stand out more clearly.

Prime versions could change the roster feel

EA also says fighters in UFC 6 are balanced around the point in their MMA career when they were in their prime. That is an interesting shift for players who follow the sport closely.

Instead of only thinking about current form, UFC 6 is trying to give fighters stronger identity across the full roster. That can make older names, legends, and fan favorites more useful than players might expect.

Flow State changes how momentum works

Flow State is one of the headline gameplay systems in UFC 6. EA describes it as a mechanic that rewards players for using a fighter’s real strengths and building momentum through the right style of play.

That means you are not only picking the highest-rated fighter. You are choosing how you want to win. A counter striker should reward timing. A grappler should reward control. A pressure fighter should reward constant offense and smart range control.

For UFC 5 players, this could be the biggest reason to try UFC 6. It also means returning players may need time to relearn habits that worked in the older game.

Crossplay is a clear win for online players

Crossplay is one of the cleanest upgrades in UFC 6. EA confirms that players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can play together.

That should help matchmaking, especially outside peak hours or in smaller regions. If you play ranked, quick fights, or online career, a shared player pool gives UFC 6 a clear edge over UFC 5.

New modes give UFC 6 more structure

EA lists several modes for UFC 6, including UFC Career Mode, Online Career Mode, The Legacy, Hall of Legends, Ranked Championships, Fight Week, Fight Now, and The Gym.

That gives UFC 6 a stronger menu for players who want more than quick fights. The new systems also give returning players more reasons to train, test fighters, and learn the roster again.

So, should UFC 5 players upgrade?

If you mainly play offline or only jump in for quick fights, UFC 5 may still be enough. At full price, UFC 6 is a harder sell for casual players.

If you play online often, care about crossplay, want updated ratings, and like the idea of fighters feeling more unique, UFC 6 is the stronger choice.

The verdict is simple: UFC 6 looks like the better long-term pick for active players, but UFC 5 still makes sense if you are waiting for a discount.
