A blood-splattered scene from Dead Island 2 showing players battling through zombies in a California interior space.

Dead Island 2 Brings the Zombie Apocalypse to Californias Sun Soaked Shores

Posted on April 6, 2024May 27, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A Sequel Worth the Wait: Plunge Into California’s Zombie-Infested Chaos

Dead Island 2, the highly anticipated sequel in the acclaimed zombie RPG series, has finally made its mark, plunging players into a gore-filled adventure across an undead-infested California. From the bustling streets of Los Angeles to the sandy beaches of Santa Monica, players are tasked with surviving and uncovering the mysteries behind the latest zombie outbreak.

Brutal Melee Combat and Open-World Exploration

With its signature blend of brutal melee combat, expansive open-world exploration, and dark humor, Dead Island 2 offers a unique take on the zombie genre. Players can customize their slayers to fit their playstyle, utilizing an array of weapons and skills to fend off the relentless hordes.

Introducing “SoLA” – The Second Story Expansion

The adventure intensifies with Dead Island 2’s second story expansion, SoLA, set to release on April 17th. Leaving the urban chaos behind, SoLA transports players to the sunny fields and stages of California’s ultimate music festival. But this isn’t any ordinary festival; an ancient evil has turned the festival-goers into bloodthirsty zombies, transforming the site into a playground of pandemonium.

New Undead Nightmares and Weapons

SoLA ups the ante with new types of undead nightmares, including the decomposing Clotter and the terrifying Whipper. It also introduces innovative weapons like the Sawblade Launcher and the Ripper, testing players’ survival and strategy skills as they navigate through the cursed festival grounds.

Creative Direction and Festival Vibes

Art Director Adam Olson and Lead Character Artist Richard Smith have crafted SoLA to contrast with the game’s previous DLC, Haus, offering a larger, more open playground that merges the festive atmosphere with the series’ trademark gore. The expansion lovingly satirizes classic Californian festivals, complete with eco-conscious but zombified festival-goers adorned in face glitter and flowers.

Experience the Festival of Chaos

As Dead Island 2 continues to expand its horizons with SoLA, players are invited to experience the most electrifying festival of the year, where the music plays second fiddle to survival. For fans of the series and newcomers alike, the streets (and fields) of California have never been more perilously inviting.
