Game of the Week #10: Alpha Response – The New Tactical FPS by Minh Le

Posted on June 30, 2025July 10, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A first look at the wild co-op shooter from the creator of Counter-Strike—built for chaos, not competition

We’re highlighting Alpha Response to help bring attention to a promising indie FPS that deserves a place on your radar. It’s fast, reactive, and created by none other than Minh “Gooseman” Le, the original mind behind Counter-Strike.

Developed by Ultimo Ratio Games, Alpha Response is out now in Early Access on Steam. It puts you in the boots of elite police units tackling high-stakes missions across an open-world city—solo or with up to 3 teammates. A full gameplay showcase—captured in glorious 32:9 Super Ultrawide—is coming soon to our YouTube channel. Let’s just say: it’s pure tactical chaos, and it looks unreal on an ultrawide screen.

Alpha Response

Release Date: October 8, 2024 (Early Access)

Genre: FPS, Action, Police, Co-op

Developer/Publisher: Ultimo Ratio Games

Platforms: PC (Steam)

What Alpha Response Offers

Alpha Response drops players into a living city full of civilians, vehicles, and random chaos. The mission? Fight back against criminals and terrorist threats in intense, replayable scenarios—ranging from bomb defusals and hostage rescues to escort and survival missions.

SWAT officers in tactical gear fire assault rifles during an intense shootout near a burning vehicle in Alpha Response. Police cars, bus stops, and urban scenery fill the environment.

  • Open-World Urban Combat: A seamless city environment with missions scattered across varied interior and exterior locations like factories, cathedrals, and metro stations.
  • Randomized Encounters: Enemies don’t spawn in the same places twice. Each mission plays differently every time.
  • High Stakes with Friendly Fire: Civilians in every scenario add a layer of intensity and danger.
  • Co-op Focused: Play solo or in teams of up to four. Teamwork is essential in harder missions.
  • Diverse Enemies: Fight off human combatants, attack dogs, vehicles, and helicopters.
  • Extensive Arsenal: Pistols, shotguns, rifles, shields, grenades—many upgradeable with scopes, silencers, and attachments.

“I just want to make a game that’s fun, you know? Something you can hop into with friends, do some missions, and not worry about getting stomped online.” — Minh Le

And that’s exactly what this game delivers: fast, cooperative action with that old-school arcade instinct—no seasonal passes, no leaderboards, just pure tactical fun.

Early Access & Future Plans

The team at Ultimo Ratio Games is actively improving and expanding Alpha Response based on community feedback. Here’s what’s coming next:

  • New missions, enemies, police characters, and weapons
  • Improved graphics and performance optimization
  • Smarter AI and better mission balancing
  • Joystick/controller support
  • Localization for more languages

It’s still early days, but the foundation is rock solid. This is a project with heart and ambition—and a developer behind it who already changed the FPS world once.

Armed SWAT team members conduct a rescue mission inside a crowded metro train in Alpha Response. Civilians duck for cover while officers engage enemies at close range in a confined space.

Full Interview Coming Soon

We had a chance to sit down with Minh Le for a candid conversation about Alpha Response, his creative process, and the future of the game. That full interview will be published soon—don’t miss it.

Until then, wishlist the game on Steam, tell your friends, and keep your eyes on our YouTube for an ultrawide gameplay showcase you won’t want to miss.

Also check out our coverage of Ready or Not—another title in the genre.
