Ghost Recon Wildlands Gets Free 4K/60 FPS Console Upgrade and New Last Rites Mission

Posted on August 7, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Ubisoft brings Wildlands up to speed on current-generation consoles

Ghost Recon Wildlands is back with Last Rites, a major free update adding a new story mission, a 4K/60 FPS upgrade for current-generation consoles, expanded gameplay settings, new customization, and returning content.

Ubisoft released Ghost Recon Wildlands: Last Rites on August 6, 2026 as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon.

The 4K/60 FPS upgrade is aimed at current-generation console players. Ubisoft specifically confirms 4K and 60 FPS on PS5 and PS5 Pro, with current-generation improvements also applying to Xbox Series X|S.

PC players receive the new Last Rites mission, gameplay settings, customization, and other content, but 4K resolution and higher frame rates were already supported on PC.

There is also a strong reason for PC players to jump in now. Ghost Recon Wildlands is currently 95% off on Steam, dropping the base game from $49.99 to just $2.49 until August 16.

It is a substantial return for a game originally released in 2017. In our recent interview with veteran game writer Richard Dansky, he explained how the freedom to plan, position, and approach objectives in different ways helped Wildlands connect so strongly with players.

Last Rites Introduces a Darker Threat in Bolivia

Last Rites is a new story-driven mission that can be started immediately. The Ghosts enter territory controlled by Los Penitentes, a fanatical group led by a new antagonist known as La Llorona.

According to Ubisoft’s official announcement, the mission takes players into a darker and more hostile version of Bolivia. Documents and audio recordings reveal more about La Llorona, her followers, and their connection to the country’s corrupt government and military forces.

Current-Generation Consoles Finally Get 4K/60 FPS

One of the biggest changes is for console players. Ubisoft has modernized Wildlands on current-generation hardware with 60 FPS gameplay, higher-resolution visuals, improved responsiveness, and other graphical improvements.

PS5 and PS5 Pro are specifically confirmed to support 4K and 60 FPS. The update also brings current-generation improvements to Xbox Series X|S.

On PC, this should not be confused with a newly introduced 4K/60 FPS mode. The PC release already supported high resolutions and frame rates; PC players instead benefit from the new mission, settings, customization, unlocks, and other content included with Last Rites.

Players Can Make Wildlands Much Harder—or Much Easier

The update gives players considerably more control over the tactical sandbox. New Ghost Parameters include options for instant death or unlimited revives, carrying one or two primary weapons, and deciding whether unused ammunition is lost when reloading.

World and Session Settings can change the weather, time of day, alarms, jammers, and frequency of enemy patrols. Cooperative teams can also enable friendly fire.

HUD elements and difficulty settings have been expanded with additional controls for enemy perception, player endurance, vehicle durability, and other parts of the experience. The new settings can make Wildlands more accessible or create a more demanding military role-playing experience.

More Weapons, Equipment, and Free Unlocks

Last Rites unlocks additional weapons, equipment, previously unavailable camouflage, and older challenge rewards. All Ghost War PvP classes can now be unlocked for free through the in-game store alongside other items.

Players who complete the new mission also receive a new anniversary Operator Skin. PlayStation Plus members can claim additional items, including a La Llorona Iconic Skin and the P416 Micteca.

The Predator Is Back Too

Ubisoft has also confirmed the return of the Predator content with the update, restoring one of Wildlands’ most memorable crossover encounters.

Between the returning crossover, new mission, expanded gameplay settings, free unlocks, and current-generation console upgrades, Last Rites is considerably more than a routine anniversary patch.
