PS5 Gets QSSR AI Upscaling in Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei

Posted on October 3, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Sony’s New Graphics Library Targets Sharper, More Stable Images on the Standard Console

Quick Spectral Super Resolution launches first as an optional setting in two games, and developer support will decide how far it spreads.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced Quick Spectral Super Resolution, or QSSR, an AI-guided upscaling library for the standard PlayStation 5.

As of October 1, 2026, Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei are the first supported games, with QSSR offered as an optional graphics setting. For more context on Wolverine, see our September 2026 game releases guide.

QSSR is not a universal console switch; developers must integrate it game by game.

What QSSR Is

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, is Sony’s AI-based image reconstruction technology for the PS5 Pro. QSSR is a separate, lighter tier tuned for the standard PS5.

Sony says QSSR’s streamlined neural network can improve image detail and stability, while PSSR remains the higher-end option.

What Players Get Right Now

In Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, QSSR arrives as an additional graphics option rather than a replacement forced on every player.

Insomniac Games says QSSR improves clarity and stability in Wolverine, while Sucker Punch Productions says it better resolves fine details in Ghost of Yōtei.

These are developer claims, not independent Fix Gaming Channel benchmarks; Sony has not published fixed resolution targets, frame-rate results, or a full testing methodology.

QSSR Is Not a System-Wide Switch

QSSR must be integrated into individual games; a PS5 system update will not enable it across a player’s library.

Sony plans to offer QSSR broadly to developers, but its October 1 announcement named no additional games or rollout dates.

How It Differs From PS5 Pro

PSSR remains Sony’s leading upscaling technology on PS5 Pro. Sony has not claimed that QSSR produces identical results or makes the standard console equivalent to a Pro.

Our coverage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered notes PSSR support specifically on PS5 Pro.

On the standard console, QSSR gives developers another reconstruction option, with quality and performance tradeoffs likely to vary by game.

What Comes Next

For now, Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei are the only confirmed QSSR games.

Wider support remains unconfirmed until other studios name their games and ship the required updates.
