A raw test of Aphelion shows why ultrawide support still matters
I was genuinely looking forward to playing Aphelion on a 32:9 super ultrawide monitor. The atmosphere looked strong, the sci-fi setting had my attention, and after our earlier Aphelion launch coverage, this felt like the right game to test properly on a wider PC setup.
Sadly, the ultrawide side of the test did not deliver what I hoped for. In this raw PC gameplay session, Aphelion does not appear to offer proper 32:9 super ultrawide support in the build I tested. That does not automatically ruin the game, but for PC players using 21:9 or 32:9 displays, it is something worth knowing before buying, wishlisting, or jumping in through Game Pass.

Strong atmosphere, but the 32:9 test falls short
Aphelion immediately has the kind of visual identity that should work well on a large PC display. The cold sci-fi setting, cinematic camera work, and wide environmental framing all feel like they could benefit from a broader field of view and proper ultrawide presentation.
That is why this test was disappointing. On a 32:9 super ultrawide monitor, the game did not present itself as a proper super ultrawide experience during my session. Instead of making full use of the display, the presentation felt restricted. For players who invest in large PC monitors, that matters.
Why this matters for PC players
Ultrawide support is not just a cosmetic checkbox. It can improve immersion, visibility, and the overall feeling of moving through a game world. When it is missing or limited, players may run into black bars, restricted framing, awkward field-of-view behaviour, or UI placement that does not make full use of the screen.
For comparison, we have also tested and collected games that handle wider screens much better in our Top 10 Super Ultrawide series and our feature on seven 32:9 super ultrawide games worth seeing in 5K. Those articles show why proper ultrawide support can make such a difference when a game, monitor, and PC setup actually work together.
This is exactly the kind of game that could shine on 21:9 and 32:9 displays, so the lack of proper super ultrawide behaviour in this test stands out more than it would in some smaller or more static games.
Still worth showing
I still wanted to publish the footage because this is useful information. Not every gameplay video needs to be a polished showcase. Sometimes the most useful test is the honest one, especially when it shows how a game behaves on real PC hardware.
The game itself still has atmosphere, mystery, and a strong sense of place. This article is not a full review of Aphelion, and it is not a final judgment on the whole game. It is a focused PC display test based on one clear question: Does it work properly on a 32:9 super ultrawide monitor?
In this test, the answer was not what I hoped for.
