Free Steam playtests and demos to check right now

Posted on June 23, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Free Steam playtests you can request access for right now

Free Steam playtests are one of the easiest ways to try upcoming PC games early, give developers feedback, and find smaller projects before they reach launch. Here are ten current picks showing Steam Playtest request access at the time of writing.

This list is focused on playtests, not demo-only pages. Access can change quickly, and requesting access does not always mean instant entry. In most cases, Steam says players will be notified when the developer is ready for more participants.

The selection below covers zombie co-op, roguelite deckbuilding, horror, action RPGs, PvPvE combat, and early community testing. You can also check our recent Steam demo roundup and Steam Next Fest June 2026 coverage for more PC gaming picks.

DEAD SPIN

DEAD SPIN is a dark roguelite deckbuilder set inside an abandoned casino. The idea is easy to understand: build a strategy, work around deadly opponents, and use the casino’s own systems against it.

This is one for players who like deckbuilders with risk, strange synergies, cursed rewards, and a darker tone. The casino theme also gives it a clear playtest hook because balance, pacing, and run variety can all benefit from player feedback.

Release: Coming soon

Genre: Strategy, Roguelite, Deckbuilding

Developer / Publisher: Strong Monkey Games

Platforms: PC — Steam

Zombuds

Zombuds turns the zombie apocalypse into a business opportunity. Instead of only surviving, players loot, manufacture, automate, hire survivors, and build a shady empire in an open-world co-op sandbox.

This is one of the strongest picks for a quick request because its systems are built for feedback: co-op flow, automation, economy, zombie pressure, progression, and sandbox pacing.

We also uploaded the Zombuds announcement trailer on the Fix Gaming Channel trailers feed for readers who want a quick look before requesting access.

Release: Coming soon to Early Access

Genre: Action, Simulation, Management, Co-op

Developer / Publisher: Gamecraft Studios

Platforms: PC — Steam

Little Devil

Little Devil is a top-down roguelike horror-comedy with pixel art, permadeath, grotesque demons, strange powers, and a 90s retro attitude.

The appeal here is the identity. It is not only another roguelike. It mixes horror, comedy, retro style, and quick action into something that looks easy to understand at a glance.

Release: Q4 2026

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, Roguelike

Developer / Publisher: MI Pixel ltd

Platforms: PC — Steam

EPIC ZOMBIES

EPIC ZOMBIES is already available on Steam, but the page also lists a separate playtest request option. The game is a zombie survival RPG where you play as the last remaining human on Earth.

This one should be described carefully because it is not only an unreleased playtest page. It is an active Steam title with a playtest request still listed, making it useful for players who want to try or help shape a project already in development.

Release: Available now

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, Early Access

Developer: Archor Wright, ZeNN Games

Publisher: Archor Games, ZeNN Games

Platforms: PC — Steam

CRETE

CRETE is a sci-fi action roguelike about fighting biopunk creatures, using enemy DNA, and building procedural weapons. It also supports online co-op, which gives the playtest a stronger reason to exist beyond simple solo balancing.

This looks like a strong replacement for any demo-only pick because the playtest angle is clear. Combat feel, co-op balance, build variety, tactical abilities, and roguelike progression are all systems where player feedback can help.

Release: 2026

Genre: Action, Adventure, Early Access, Action Roguelike

Developer / Publisher: Mayhem Mirror Studios

Platforms: PC — Steam

Golden Self

Golden Self is a fast action roguelike focused on precision combat, boss fights, and a surreal journey through the self. The setup is about confronting inner demons and surviving shifting trials.

Golden Self is a colorful action roguelike currently showing Steam Playtest request access.

This is a clean pick for players who want a compact action roguelike with responsive movement, build decisions, and repeated runs built around improving your timing.

Release: 2026

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, Action Roguelike

Developer / Publisher: Lightning Oath

Platforms: PC — Steam

Swordeye

Swordeye is one of the more hardcore games on this list. It combines persistent PvPvE dungeons, full-loot extraction, online co-op, online PvP, and directional sword combat.

The draw is risk. This is for players who like combat that asks for timing, practice, and nerves under pressure. If losing loot in a dangerous dungeon sounds exciting, this playtest is worth a look.

Release: 2026

Genre: Action, Massively Multiplayer, RPG

Developer / Publisher: ALX Theory LLC

Platforms: PC — Steam

Asterfel

Asterfel is a third-person action RPG inspired by classic early 2000s RPGs. The game is set on an island shaped by ambition, factions, old magic, and something ancient waking beneath the surface.

This is the RPG pick of the list. It brings factions, sword combat, magic, open-ended character growth, and a darker fantasy setting for players who want more than a short action test.

Release: Coming soon

Genre: Action, Indie, RPG

Developer / Publisher: Mysteria Studio UG

Platforms: PC — Steam

Daughter of Voodoo

Daughter of Voodoo is a first-person narrative horror game about hauntings, clairvoyance, rituals, and spirits who are not only monsters to avoid.

The developer notes that the playtest is for a very early prototype, with access granted in small waves. That makes this one better for players who understand early testing and want to give feedback, not players expecting a finished horror game right away.

Release: Coming soon to Early Access

Genre: Casual, Indie, Simulation, Early Access, Horror

Developer / Publisher: D&A Studios

Platforms: PC — Steam

NightSpawn

NightSpawn is a free-to-play multiplayer horror game where investigators face cursed locations, supernatural monsters, objectives, and escape-room-style pressure. It supports co-op and PvP ideas, with community testing tied to new monsters, maps, investigators, modes, and balance changes.

Like EPIC ZOMBIES, this one needs careful wording because it is already available on Steam. The reason it stays on the list is simple: the page still shows a Steam Playtest request option.

Release: Available now

Genre: Action, Adventure, Indie, Early Access, Horror

Developer: Blood Eater Games

Publisher: Forthright Entertainment

Platforms: PC — Steam

Good to know before requesting access

Steam playtests are early builds. Some may include bugs, missing features, balance changes, placeholder content, or limited access windows. That is part of the point. Developers use these tests to collect feedback before wider release, Early Access, or launch.

Requesting access also does not guarantee instant entry. Some developers approve players in waves, while others open the doors quickly during active testing periods. If a game on this list interests you, request access early and wishlist it so you can follow future updates.

Which playtest should you request first?

For roguelike fans, start with DEAD SPIN, Little Devil, CRETE, or Golden Self. For co-op players, Zombuds, Swordeye, and NightSpawn are the easiest starting points. For darker RPG and horror angles, Asterfel and Daughter of Voodoo bring the list more variety.

As always with Steam playtests, access is not guaranteed. Requesting access means the developer can notify you when more players are accepted.
